Bob Bremer

 

Bob Bremer is an accomplished executive leader, researcher, and engineer with over 35 years of professional experience in a variety of corporate, public sector, and community service roles. His diverse career as an engineer, project manager, operations manager, technology officer, business risk officer, and financial leader distinguish Bob as a successful professional with broad skills and experience; and a passion for every project he undertakes.

Bob's experience includes leadership positions with the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University if Virginia, Capital One Financial Corporation, and Exxon Mobil Corporation.  He served as the Chairman for the 9,000-member Gulf Coast Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Chairman of the Science Museum of Virginia Foundation, and Treasurer for the University of Virginia Engineering Foundation.

Bob attended the University of Virginia where he received a B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering with highest distinction.  He continued his education at Houston Baptist University, where he obtained an M.B.A.  He also earned a post-baccalaureate graduate certification in public management from Virginia Commonwealth University’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.

  • Functioned as business risk officer for national lending.  Held responsibility for strategic risk management across all dimensions of risk and tactical execution against risk management, policy, and compliance programs

  • Served as technology officer for major operational units providing credit decision services, delinquent card collections, and customer service.  Held responsibility for technology project management, business systems analysis, risk management, and day-to-day business systems support to operations.   

  • Led development of first comprehensive credit policy and credit policy governance framework for the company as a high-priority effort in response to regulatory concerns about corporate credit governance.   

  • Served as chief operating officer for major business line serving young adult demographic population.  Acted on management team for business line and provided input to overall marketing and business strategy.

  • Built and led team of over 180 associates responsible for day-to-day systems operations, facility management, and other operational support for five call centers and one professional office in Virginia and Texas.  Led strategy development, planning, and project management for all technology and physical plant infrastructure initiatives.

  • Chief Financial and Chief Operations Officer with leadership over strategic financial planning, business and budget operations, research grants and contract administration, physical facilities, human resource management, and information technology. Total budget exceeded  $146 million with 400 employees and 3,800 students.

  • Eliminated an annual operational deficit of over $1 million, reduced a   $9 million accumulated deficit to just under $3 million, built an operational reserve of over $8.5 million, while investing heavily in new equipment, lab renovations, new faculty, and student services.

  • Represented the Engineering School on various University-wide committees for the development and implementation of strategies for fiscal, human resource, and facilities management.  Served on the University-wide policy committee.  Served on a number of search committees for executive positions.

  • Served as Treasurer and financial consultant to the Engineering Foundation. Transformed financial operations, fund management, analysis, and reporting to improve fiscal operations and overall stewardship of donor funds.
